Hombale Films is currently one of the leading production houses in South India known for backing some of the most celebrated films in Indian cinema.
Recently the banner announced that Kantara: Chapter 1 has been submitted for Best Picture consideration at the Academy Awards 2026. Adding to the surprise, another film associated with Hombale has also entered the Oscars race.
The production house has officially submitted Mahavatar Narsimha for Best Picture consideration as well. Both projects are highly ambitious and bring major recognition to Hombale Films. However industry analysts believe Mahavatar Narsimha could have an edge, as it is an animated film.
With animated movies gaining increasing attention at the Oscars, the jury may lean toward Narsimha over traditional commercial films. At the same time, Kantara though rooted in a specific region, carries a universal emotional appeal.
Meanwhile the Hindi film Homebound has also made it to the Top 15 in the Official Entry category. The film’s emotional narrative dealing with identity, family bonds and the pull of one’s roots, is expected to strongly resonate with international voters.
